Beyond the Postcard: A Perspective Forged in History

Most guides can tell you the height of Table Mountain. I’d rather tell you what it felt like to stand on a stage in 1995 as the host for President Nelson Mandela.

It was his second year in office. He came to my school in Mitchells Plain to make a historic announcement. Everything was perfect—until he publicly reprimanded me in front of thousands of people and the global media.

That moment taught me more about leadership, humanity, and our "Rainbow Nation" than any textbook ever could. I’ve spent my life teaching history and fighting for a future beyond Apartheid. When you walk with me, you aren’t just seeing Cape Town; you are hearing its heartbeat from someone who lived the transition.
